Durham has lived in Europe since 1994 where his work has been shown widely, featuring in the Venice Biennale in 1999, 2003, 2005 and 2013, and Documenta, Kassel in 1992 and 2012. In 2019, Jimmie Durham was the recipient of the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 58th Venice Biennale – May You Live In Interesting Times.
