Caterina Erica Shanta

Caterina Erica Shanta (b. 1986 Landshul, Germany; lives and work in Pordenone, Italy), artist and director, she hold an MFA from IUAV University in Venice and is working primarily in the field of moving images.

Caterina investigate images’ produced by others, to explore how these are related to particular contexts. Using mixed and re-edited material as video, footage and archival photos as main medium, her research is focussed on the images’ redefinition proper of documentary films’ language. She has taken part in artistic residency as Atelier Fondazione Bevilacqua la Masa (VE), CAREOF Art Residency (MI), as  well as she has taken part in art programs such as VISIO – European Program on Artists’ Moving Images at Lo Schermo dell’Arte Film Festival (FI) and Q-RATED La Quadriennale di Roma (Castello di Rivoli, TO).

Actually she’s working on two different projects: her last feature film Il Cielo Stellato, out soon on 2019, produced by CAREOF and INVISIBILE FILM, supported by Lucana Film Commissiona and Sky Arte HD; and the MISHA’s Archive, an un-anthropic archive about MISHA the bear, realized for the film project MISHA L’orso che è esistito, co-directed with Martina Melilli, research supported by Dolomiti Contemporanee, Altrove Films, Invisibile Films.
